Energizer is a first person narrative that is at times electric, sorrowful, inventive, astonishing, and ultimately totally unpredictable and original. I love Mr. Manning's writing style. The use of first person puts you firmly in Daniel's head and you are there for the duration of the book, experiencing every nuance with him.

The author's voice rings clear and true. His writing is wonderfully descriptive. He draws his scenes and characters in Technicolor. The space Daniel inhabits is tangible. The joy and pain he feels lifts your spirit or makes you cry.

By the time I reached the end of this book I felt as though Daniel and I were old friends. The conclusion was satisfying, and yet, we are given the hope that Mr. Manning will revisit Daniel so we might follow him into another thrilling episode.

A story not only full of twists and turns but imaginative and creatively intelligent. The hero was imperfect and the scenarios always interesting. I recommend it for fun and excitement, great read.
Energize is truly an enjoyable novel filled with fantastic and memorable characters. The author, Thomas Manning, does such a wonderful job with every detail of this novel that I could clearly picture every scene. So whether you're a Sci Fi lover or not, this book is a must read!!!

I loved the growth and beginnings of the Daniel Quinn universe and mythology, including the magical, Panacea-type energy source known as Empyreus. Realistic, rich characters, with all their strengths and weaknesses, have you both cheering them on and cursing them under your breath at the same time!

If Manning's next novel shapes up to be anywhere near as good as Energize (and I fully believe that it can only get better from here), then we are in for an awesome sequel filled with action and excitement!
Thomas Manning's, "Energize (From the Logs of Daniel Quinn)", is a sensational sci-fi book about the travels of Daniel Quinn, yet it is so much more than a play by play of events. This is the kind of story where there is no down time, there is no chance to put it down and walk away because it is that captivating. The imagery is so immense that I could easily picture Daniel and his explorations playing out in front of my eyes as if I was watching a movie. The characters came to life as the pages turned and I grew to either love them or want to spit acid at the mention of their names. Even if you are not a big sci-fi reader, I strongly recommend picking up a copy of "Energize" because you will not be disappointed. It is a very easy read but one that will keep you wondering what the next move will be. I cannot wait for the next book to come out to find out what new adventures Daniel and Al will face...plus there are a couple characters that need a giant dose of justice served to them.
Energize is the first book in the series, From the Logs of Daniel Quinn, by Thomas R. Manning. In book one, Daniel is forced on a mission to an unknown planet to find an energy source that he’s not even sure exists. On this plant he discovers an alternate race, which he calls Dawnians, that speak in song and have the power to affect emotions in their melodious communication. Daniel convinces the Dawnians to trust him, but it’s not long until Cessa, Daniel’s deadly babysitter sent along to ensure he completes the job, starts causing trouble.

Manning creates an imaginative world of space adventure. Daniel, who can’t get many jobs because he refuses to do things like murder when required, finds his only friend in his ship’s ultra-intelligent navigational system. He is chased by those he has escaped from, and also from horrors in his past. As he fights to continue to do the right thing, he must decide who he will side with—his own race who is set on destruction, or a foreign race that wants to be left in peace. This sci-fi adventure will take you on a tour of the universe, from powerful ships to brutal fights to technology used in inventive ways.
Energize was an excellent debut novel written very well by Thomas Manning. Considering this was my first Sci-Fi book I ever read, I was blown away by how exciting it was to follow Daniel Quinn on his quest to retrieve a great power on a faraway planet only to get caught up in a mess not to mention his assistant betrayed him and a total war occurred between the humans who wanted this power and the aliens he grew close to/protected. I couldn’t put this page-turning book down! I highly recommend Energize if you want to get your feet wet in the Sci-Fi world, or just looking to get lost in space. I’ll definitely be picking up book 2 and the future ones as well. You should too!
Plenty of other reviews covered the basics of the story, so I won't re-post any of those details. I will say that the only comment I disagreed with was that it had a weak ending. I thought the ending was satisfying and wrapped up the story while paving the way for a sequel.

There are lots of twists in this book and it kept me guessing. The beginning was a little repetitive for me (there are 3 points where our hero gets captured), but besides that I enjoyed the plot. As a writer myself, there were a few times I was wondering how Quinn was possibly going to get out of his next jam (and how I would write it), and was pleasantly treated to satisfying outcomes.

He has a few key relationships in the story, and I found myself wanting to see them develop further. Maybe they will in future installments. I think the most developed relationship was with his on-board computer, which is interesting in itself.

All in all, it's a fast read, and the entertainment value is well worth the price tag. Check it out!
