To love or not to love, that is the question. And I have loved Caridad’s books since I first met the South Beach Chicas. This story does not let me down. I just hope that Jonathan and Connie and all their families and friends stay safe from Hurricane Florence. They have had enough turmoil in their lives. I enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.

What Happens in Summer At the Shore Book 2 edition by Caridad Pineiro Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I was excited to be given the opportunity to read this book since it sounded like a cute story about a second chance summer romance. I was also intrigued by the fact that one of main characters is Cuban since it's not often that I come across Latina MC's. I wish I could say that I loved the story, but I struggled with it.

One of the reasons I feel that I struggled with it is because I had a hard time connecting with both MC's due to the pacing and transitions. I'm a big fan of Third Person POV, so I enjoyed being inside the heads of both Connie and John, but it didn't quiet feel like enough. Having the POV jump back and forth within each chapter chopped up the flow of the scenes. I feel it could have been smoother if the change in POV alternated chapters instead. That way as a reader I could have gotten more from Connie and John's perspective, therefore gotten to connect with them better.

I was a little disappointed that Connie's culture wasn't infused more into the story. As a Latina woman, I want to be able to read about characters that I can relate to culturally. It doesn't happen often. I caught a hint of it when Emma invited Connie over to Carlos's family dinner, but it was a snippet and left me wanting more. I feel that if a character's culture, ethnicity, beliefs etc. are going to be mentioned, then for the reader's sake, it should be explored since those elements can be like a second skin for a person. It can also help the reader connect with the characters better and feel more real. The way we are raised, very much shapes who we are as people, so we want to see that in the characters we read too.

The story was touching how both Connie and John were able to find forgiveness and let go of the weight that was holding them down. The pacing felt slow for me, since it didn't really have the highs and lows that keep me as a reader turning the pages to find out what happens next. However, it did pick up in speed a little towards the end as Connie and John started to sort out their obstacles. Overall, I liked it, I just didn't love it.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy, in exchange for an honest review.
This was a rather sweet second-chance romance. The problem I had was that the heroine, Connie Reyes, was rather irritating in her indecision about what she thinks of Jonathan, the guy she’s been in love with since college. But she has been emotionally damaged because her father had abandoned her and her mother when she was a little girl. So she has become rigidly determined to have an organized plan for her life and to avoid someone like Jonathan whom she drops because he doesn’t seem to know what he wants in life as a young man and dropped out of college. He drifted for a while and then became a multi-millionaire. Because, of course he did. He’s a hero in a romance novel.

Then when they meet up later, she falls back in love with him, but is still wary of making it permanent with him because, once again, she’s worried that he isn’t as goal-directed as she is even as she’s pondering leaving her own job. And her big objection to him now - he can’t decide which house he wants to buy in the town he wants to settle down in and is buying a building to move his business to. That just seemed much too tightly wrapped for a person supposedly making mature decisions about her life. I liked Jonathan a whole lot more than her and couldn’t really see what he saw in her.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
Was too sexual
Writing somewhat stiff
I loved the relationship of the best friends and their lost loves. The family dynamics seemed so possible and real. Each book kept me wanting the next.
Excellent book and writer
A nice warm and fuzzy story with a happy ending. It was interesting to see how the parents came around and owned up to their mistakes.
