This stunning novel manages to be both sweeping and personal. Brigitte's WWII disappearance is the mystery that fuels the story. Her flight with Dietmar from Hitler's Germany is a page-turner that drew me in at once and pulled me from chapter to chapter. The facts are elusive, but by exposing them Quenby is able to come to terms with the mysteries of her own past. I love the way we see a full range of human experience: people at their best--self-sacrificing, protecting the weak, committed to truth--pitted against men and women at their most ruthless and self-seeking. Scenes are lush and believable. Characters are memorable, even secondary ones. I highly recommend this novel.

Catching the Wind Melanie Dobson 9781496424785 Books Reviews

This talented author has woven multiple plotlines, timelines and various developed characters and perspectives into smooth flowing, well written story set during WWII that concludes seventy years later. This story is amazing - it caught my attention and kept me fixated throughout the book with all the suspense, up to the very end.
The story, woven seamlessly between World War II and contemporary settings, keeps the reader turning pages, wondering about the lives of all these players. The author ties the characters together in a surprising way at the end of the novel. An enjoyable read.
This was the first book I have read by this author. And it is hands down the best book I have read in quite a while. Drew me in from the start and held me there until the end. Look forward to reading more by Melanie Dobson.
This is first book by this author and I am impressed, excellent writing and story. It goes from WW 2 time to present, which some authors don't do well but Ms. Dobson does. Brigitte and DIetmar are separated after escaping Germany and the Nazi's. In present time, Quentin Vaughn is looking into British citizens who helped the enemy during WW 2. This is a story of love, faith, endurance, and sacrifices but has a surprise yet wonderful ending. Highly recommend this book.
Award winning author Melanie Dobson's time slip novel "Catching the Wind" tells the story of American journalist Quenby Vaughn and her search to uncover mystery of what happened to ten year old Brigitte during World War II. Dobson takes us back to the 1940s and tells the story of Brigitte and thirteen year old Daniel as they fled from Germany to England. The readers find out clues to the missing pieces of the puzzle right along with Quenby. This is such a beautiful story, and Dobson did an incredible job piecing the past together with the present day timeline. I can often predict the ending of stories, but I was pleasantly surprised at the ending and how the historical and contemporary stories came together. It was a very rewarding conclusion for the readers. Melanie Dobson does not disappoint! 5 stars!!!!
This book was so captivating! While I admit it was a tinge slow at one part a few chapters in, it very quickly caught my attention again and I found myself not wanting to put it down. Without giving too much away, the way the stories intersect were flawless and I loved the mystery. This is the third book I've read by Melanie Dobson, and definitely not the last. Possibly my favorite of hers! Read this book. You won't be disappointed!
Melanie Dobson's story of WWII heartbreak, ever abiding loyalty, friendship, and intrigue draws you in from the first sentence and won't let you go until the last period. The innocence of childhood pretend play swirls into the path of the real Nazi dragons destroying families and chasing the children. The once pretend knight and his childhood princess are pulled apart. But Daniel has the true heart of a prince and never forgets Brigitte. He valiantly fights the real obstacles and challenges of life for years while trying to find her. All his efforts appear futile until he enlists the help of Quenby Vaughn. Will the skills of this journalist working with Lucas Hough on Daniel's behalf find Brigitte too late or not at all? You must read this book to discover the entire story. It is bigger than knowing the ending. The author is brilliant.
